Biography

Maykel Fonts is a product of one of the most prestigious dance schools in Cuba, the Tropicana, where he studied Classical and Contemporary Dance along with Afro-Cuban dances, including Cuban Rumba (Guaguancó, Yambú, Columbia). After moving to Italy in 2000, with the group “Ire Batá”, he continued his dance education with Virgilio Pitzalis, Marco Macchetti, Steve LaChance, Gus Bemberry, Christopher Uggins, Chacalli, Paganini and many others. In 2006 he participated in World Salsa Congress, winning the “best choreography” and “best dancer” awards. Maykel’s vast dance experience includes working as choreographer and a dancer at various festivals, sharing the stage with groups such as Mercadonegro and Buena Vista Social Club, and performing in numerous TV shows.

Maykel’s charismatic personality and transfixing music interpretation make him one of the most wanted Cuban teachers/performers on the international salsa scene. His unique style, strong and masculine, yet light and springy, is imitated and mastered by most European Rumberos..
